Using The Explanar For Perfect Path

Categories :

If you’ve ever been to one of my lessons you would of heard me stress the importance of having a very good swing plane. In fact sometimes I may have brought you over to the Explanar to further demonstrate how to feel the ideal path in the swing. The Explanar as seen in the below picture, is a fairly big structure where a tube is set at a 45 degree angle. The idea is to stand in the middle and rest your club against the tube during the entirety of the swing. You will then feel and understand how the path works in the swing.

As I’ve stated before, the correct way to feel the path is to imagine the path is travelling around your body at a 45 degree angle. Now the reason why this angle is so important is all down to how the clubs have been designed. When you place a club down on it’s exact angle, you will notice it is set at around 45 degrees. Therefore in order to strike the ball properly, the club must enter at around a 45 degree angle. Now in order to assist in swinging at a 45 degree angle, you should also set your spine angle at 45 degrees and attempt to keep on this angle right up until the ball is hit.

Now there are a couple of tips when using the Explanar to ensure that your arms are connected to your body while you swing. You want to ensure that as you’re keeping the club on the tube, that your left arm is sliding across your chest as well that your body is rotating. Also when swinging down, just ensure you bump your left hip first as the club slides down the tube. This will ensure you transition correctly.

Now the Explanar is most beneficial for those who have just started golf or someone who is battling a slice. For those who have just started, I will have them stand in the middle and just get them to understand and feel the motion of the golf swing. This will help them fast track their progress as well not falling into bad habits like ‘swinging over the top’. For those battling a slice it’s a perfect drill as they will feel the club starting behind them as they commence their downswing rather than their arms going forward. Once they have become used to it, they will then be able to change that slice to straight or even draw shots.
