Use Your Shadow To Improve Your Swing!!

Categories :

One of the most common questions that students ask is ‘How do I know I’m doing the right action on the range?’ One of the best resources outside is in fact looking at your shadow. It is highly recommended to do practice swings while looking at your shadow before commencing your shot. One of the best sources of information from using your shadow is whether your head is remaining stable. Just remember that on the backswing you want to keep your head roughly in the same position and then on the follow through ensuring your head goes through with your body.

Another element to view when using your shadow is whether your hips are swaying. You want to ensure your left hip (Opposite for eft handers) is only a moving a little to the right on the backswing. A great tip when seeing whether you’re moving your head or your hips is placing golf balls on the ground where your shadow is being displayed next to your head and left hip. You will be able to see very clearly how much movement you are currently performing in your swing when completing a backswing.

When looking at your shadow you can also have a great idea whether you’re positioning yourself correctly at the top of your swing. You want to make sure that your left arm and shaft are forming a 90 degree angle. This position will ensure you’re storing enough power in the swing as well putting yourself in the best position approaching impact. The other element to look at is whether your left shoulder is passing under your chin. This will ensure you have the correct turn in the swing.

The last element to look out for is whether you’re transferring your weight onto the front foot. Have a look whether all the weight has moved onto the left foot. You should see quite a significant amount of movement to the left. You also want to make sure that the right foot is pointed at the target. This will ensure the hips have turned through the ball so they face the target at the end of the swing.

Just remember when you are practicing to use different queues around you. If you’d like any further help in improving your swing on the range just contact myself at David Waters Golf.
