The Difference/Similarities Of The Bryan Bros Driver Swings
If you’ve ever seen one of the Bryan Bros Videos, you can clearly see that both are excellent ball strikers of the ball. Wesley is on the P.G.A Tour and George is trying to make last stage Q School to join his brother. When seeing their videos you can see others often referencing George as the Driving Machine. Wesley is more known for his strong iron play and short game. When viewing their swings, there are some clear reasons why the Driver is George’s strength over Wesley.
First of all at set-up Wesley tends to stand a little taller while George is more tilted over the ball. Both are very strong starting positions. Their Takeaways are nearly identical in that when the club reaches parallel to the ground, the club and the hands are roughly forming a straight line. George if anything has the clubhead slightly more in front of the hands. The top of the swings are however a little different with Wesley tending to be flatter at the top with George tending the follow the same path from the takeaway.
Now with this difference in the top positions does lead to differences on the way down which separates George to being a little more consistent with his Driver. Now due to the path becoming a little flatter at the top of the swing for Wesley, the path tends to get a little steep on occasion as a way to compensate on the Downswing. The clubface also tends to be a little open coming down. This can result in pulls or pull ‘cuts’.
The difference with George though is his path isn’t as flat at the top, his downswing becomes a little shallower on his transition and then when the club reaches parallel to the ground, he is able to rotate left producing a fade. It is almost as though he is able to keep a pretty similar swing plane all the way through. The biggest key for Wesley to be as consistent as George with his Driver is to try and keep his clubface a little more in front of his hands in the Takeaway and then take the club a little steeper on the downswing. This should then enable him to flatten more on the downswing thus being able to put it more in the slot.
